Mr. Woodley Earl Worthy, age 73 of Fruithurst, AL, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, in a local hospital. He was born on November 27, 1948, in Buchanan, GA, to the late Woodley Walter Worthy and the late Clora McAdams Worthy. Earl, as many called him, proudly served in the United States Army reaching the rank of Sergeant in the 4th Infantry. He saw combat action in Viet Nam and was awarded the Army Commendation Badge with Valor; the Combat Infantryman Badge; the National Defense Medal; the Army Service Medal; the Viet Nam Service Medal; and the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal.
Earl was a graduate of West Georgia College with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology and worked for many years in the mental health field. He most recently was a counselor with the State of Alabama Mental Health Division.. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working in the yard, gardening, driving his tractor, and fishing. Earl dearly loved his family.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Jenny McCrary Worthy of Fruithurst; his daughters, Raleigh (Joe) Dyer of Cedartown and Emma (Preston Clark) Worthy of Anniston, AL; and his precious grandchildren: Ethan Dyer, Asa Dyer, Silas Dyer, Margo Dyer, Geneva Davis, and Althea Davis. Also surviving are his sister, Charlotte Hunt, of Tallapoosa, his brother, Van (Kathy) Worthy of Cedartown, and many other family and friends.
A private family service will be held with military honors, and interment will follow in the Fruithurst City Cemetery.
