William Buel Richards

William Buel Richards, age 71 of Buchanan, passed away on June 23, 2021. He was born on January 29, 1950, in Buchanan to the late William Lawrence Richards and the late Vivian Carden Richards. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Byron Richards.

Mr. Richards was a Deacon for many years at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Buchanan. He retired from The Georgia State Patrol as a dispatcher in 1996. He loved to work on cars and watch NASCAR, but most of all he was a good Christian and hardworking man that loved his family dearly.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Peggy Proctor Richards of Buchanan; four daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa Richards Barclay and Kenneth of Tallapoosa, Michele Richards Messner and Philip of Villa Rica, Tara Richards Smith and Brandon of Tallapoosa, and Lisa Lingo Aldridge and Mike of Calhoun; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Richards Layton and Hoyt of Tallapoosa; seven grandchildren, Jay, Micheala, Lara, Skylar, Paisley, Griffin and Nolin; two great grandchildren, Carter and Bryson and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 11:00 AM from Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Morris and Reverend Ricky Caldwell officiating. He will lie in state from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Mike Powers officiating and the following gentleman serving as pallbearers: Mike Aldridge, Brad Richards, Ricky Dobbs, Jay Holloway, Lee Dobbs and CJ Meeks.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 25, 2021, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel.
