Mr. Thomas “Thom” Edward Phillips of Bremen passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in a local healthcare facility after a brief illness. He was born in Atlanta on May 30, 1942, to parents Connie and Samantha Phillips. In addition to his parents, Thom is preceded in death by his sister, Suanne Phillips Chandler, brother Olais Phillips, and late wife, Jolene Phillips.
After completing high school, Thom served his country in the U.S. Army as a Medic. He went on to work at the Ford Motor Assembly Plant in Hapeville, retiring after 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and especially golfing. Thom loved to laugh and was always quick with a joke. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Bremen.
Thom leaves to cherish his memories, his wife and love of his life, Dr. Martha Gillham Smith of Bremen; his son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Sherrie Phillips of Williamson; grandchildren, Brandon (Liz) McGill, Christopher (Caitlin) Barclay, and Kristen Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Kellan, and Griffin. He also is survived by his bonus brothers, Chris, Craig and Cameron Watson; the mother of his son, Vicki Phillips; nieces, Holly Chandler Weeks, Kerri Chandler, and Rebecca Chandler Knott; and nephew, Jeff Chandler.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Thomas Phillips will be conducted on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at 1:30 PM from Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with his nephew, Scott Stover, and Rev. Dr. Tommy Green officiating. Eulogies will be provided by Cameron, Chris and Craig Watson, Janie Hubbard, and Don Little. Musical selections will be provided by Kersha Cartwright accompanied by Dr. Margaret Gillham. The family will receive friends from Noon until the funeral hour.. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers in Buchanan: Chris Watson, Craig Watson, Todd Smith, Ronald "Squeaky" Arp, Doug Stitcher, and Honorary Pallbearers Edward Boyce, Dean Mallory, and Allen Garner.
Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at 5:00 PM from Moody Memorial Gardens in Zebulon, GA.
