Shelma Worthy Richards

Shelma Worthy Richards, age 72 of Buchanan, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020. She was born on October 9, 1948 in Bremen to the late Henry Newt Worthy and the late Ruby Brown Worthy. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Lewis Byron Richards. 

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Kim Richards of Buchanan; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Kevin Haynes of Buchanan; two sisters, Diane Worthy Lee of Millbrook, AL and Debra Worthy of Buchanan; one brother, Donny Worthy of Buchanan; four grandchildren, Presley Richards Meeks and CJ, Lucas Byron Richards and Ande Pope, Michael Cody Maria and Maddie Ludvik and Kensley Maria Smith and Ty; one great grandson, Carson Jayce Meeks and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 from Bethel Baptist Church at 1:00 PM with Reverend Van Brown and Bryan McGarity officiating. She will lie in state from 11:00 AM until the service hour. Music will be rendered by Kevin McBrayer and Bryan McGarity. Interment will follow in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Ronald Carroll and Brother Alton Stamey officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers: David Lee, Jay Westmoreland, Travis York, Chad Worthy, Ryan Worthy and Kevin McBrayer. Honorary pallbearer is Stan Clarke.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
