Sara Stanley Obituary

Mrs. Sara Moore Stanley, age 83 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Born on June 25, 1938, in Meriwether County, she was the only child of the late Fred Moore and Mary Lou Davis Ballard.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stanley, to whom she was married December 24, 1961, until his passing in 2016. 

Sara graduated Tift College with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics.  She came to Buchanan in the early 60's as the county extension agent and met her husband, Richard Stanley. After staying at home with her children, she entered the workforce again as a teacher and then again as a Supervisor at the Department of Family and Children's Services in Buchanan where she retired. She had continued her education at the University of West Georgia completing her Master's Degree in Gerontology.  Sara loved to read, garden, cook and sew.  She was a member of the Buchanan First Baptist Church, a member of the Buchanan Women's Club, and spent many hours with Buchanan Seniors traveling.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Richard Stanley and Miguel Camtu of San Antonio, TX; Gay and Tim Green of Lineville, AL; and Thomas and Tanya Stanley of Buchanan; grandchildren Lydia O'Neal of Bremen; Abbey Starnes of Bremen; Andrew Stanley of Athens; Avery Stanley of Buchanan; Josh Green of Maryland; Jacob Green of Winston-Salem, NC; and Jada Green of Charlotte, NC.  Also surviving are her great-grandchildren: Dallas O'Neal, Hughston O'Neal, Madeline Green and Calia Green.

A celebration of life for Sara Stanley will be conducted on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 3:00 PM from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Patty Hutcheson delivering the eulogy and Rev. Dr. Allen Wilburn offering the invocation.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the service hour.

To honor her love of reading, the family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Friends of the Buchanan-Haralson Library, PO Box 338, Buchanan, GA 30113.
