Reverend Dr. William Allen (W.A.) Ivie, Sr., age 83 of Buchanan, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. He was born on July 23, 1936 in Cedartown to the late Allen Augusta Ivie and the late Willie Mae Sloman Ivie. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Hackney, Vivian Scoggin and Ann Lee.
Mr. Ivie served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1962. He was a beloved pastor for many churches and served as Chaplin for the Haralson County Sheriffs Office. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was loved by so many who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Linda Annette Ivie of Buchanan; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy (Ivie Wood) and Ian Freyberg; two sons and daughter-in-law, Allen and Kristi Ivie of Cedartown and Chris Ivie and Cherry Jones of Buchanan; one brother and sister-in-law, James Edward and Betty Jean Ivie of Armuchee; four grandchildren, Nicole Wood, Dylan Wood, Tripp Ivie, Luke Ivie and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 2:00 PM from Tallapoosa East Baptist Church with Reverend Herman Parker and Revered Dr. Mason Bush officiating with Tripp Ivie saying a special prayer. Mr. Ivie will lie in state from 1:00 PM until the service hour. The interment will follow in Pine Bower Baptist Church cemetery with Alton Stamey officiating and Tripp Ivie with a special prayer. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Tripp Ivie, Luke Ivie, Dylan Wood, Edward Pollard, Mike Bentley, Charlie Lee, Stan Shirah and Steve Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Haralson County Sheriffs Office, Deacons from past churches and Tony Wheeler.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening at Tallapoosa East Baptist Church from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM for the elderly and from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM for the general public.
