Martenla (Dees) West

Martenla Dees West, age 59 of Rockmart, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at a local hospital. She was born on March 8, 1963, to the late James Wilburn Dees and the late Martha Jane Frey Dees.  Martenla was a member of the 1981 graduating class of Haralson County High School.

Martenla had a big heart, loved her family dearly, and was their biggest encourager. One of her passions was attending her granddaughter's ballgames and cheering for them, but not just for them, for others, too.  She was always up for an adventure and loved traveling with her family.  Being a country girl, she enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, and when relaxing indoors, she liked to read and do puzzles.  Her love for her Lord was evident and was manifested in serving others. She will be truly missed by her family, her community and her church.

Survivors include her husband Davey West of Rockmart; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Amanda West of Rockmart; sister and brother-in-law, Blaun and Luke Wiggins of Acworth; brothers and sister-in-law, Joe Dees of Rockmart and Jim and Sherry Dees of Ranburne; two granddaughters, Ella West and Charli West, and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at 2:00 PM from Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with Reverend Kenny Teal and Dr. Mason Bush officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jay Hurley, Cory Coggins, Christopher Brannon, Edward Pollard, Marty Astin, Wesley Dees and Cody McBride. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ben Hurston, T.J. Ward, David Astin, Joseph Simpson, Jon Robinson and Rob Eaves.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Tallapoosa East Baptist Church from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
