Loretta Jean (Barber) Akin

Mrs. Loretta Jean Barber Akin, age 91 of Buchanan, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021, in a local hospital.  She was born on April 8, 1930, in Atlanta, GA, to the late Grace Melton Barber and the late Clifford Barber. In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh "Randy" Akin, to whom she was married in 1956.  She worked for more than 30 years as a secretary at Commercial Shearing, a steel manufacturing company in Atlanta..  Living in Buchanan for more than 35 years, Randy and Jean moved here after their retirement.  She was a member of the Buchanan United Methodist Church.

Survivors include nieces, Amanda Albright of Morrow, and Vicki Lewis of Flowery Branch; and great-nieces, Cinammon Sullivan and Tiffany Savage.  Also surviving are her special friends and caregivers, Erby Sellers, who called her "mom,"  and George and Beverly Porvaznik.

Funeral services for Mrs. Loretta Jean Akin will be conducted Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 2:00 PM, from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel  with George Porvaznik delivering the eulogy.  Friends and family may visit from noon until the funeral hour.  Interment will follow in the Buchanan City Cemetery.
