John Mark Hanson

John Mark Hanson, age70 of Buchanan, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021. He was born on September 22, 1950, in Piedmont, AL to the late James Ollie Hanson, Sr. and the late Mary Jeanell Potts Hanson. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, James Hanson, Jr., Thomas Andrew Hanson and one great grandchild, Abigail Wilson. 

Mark was a proud U.S. Army veteran, who was instrumental in organizing the annual Memorial Day tribute to Haralson County's only Medal of Honor recipient, Ray McKibben.  He also assisted with many DAV activities.  Mark was a local pastor and helped build a food bank at New Beginnings Tabernacle.  He lived his life to help others.

Survivors include his wife Geraldine Dilbeck Hanson of Buchanan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lavita Eads and Shane of Resaca and Christina Hanson Wise and Jason of Buchanan; three sons and daughter-in-law, Patrick Lucas Hanson of Buchanan, Robert Griffin, III and Liz of Jacksonville, AL and Cody Lee Ferguson of Buchanan; sister, Gloria Garmon of Centre, AL two brothers and sister-in-law, Jesse Joel Hanson of Buchanan and Paul Timothy Hanson and Emma of Rockmart; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Reverend Robert Griffin, III officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the service hour. In keeping with Mr. Hanson's wishes he will be cremated following the service. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel to help with funeral expenses.
