Jerry Vess Obituary

Jerry Wayne Vess, age 72 of Bremen, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 7, 2023.  Born in Sheffield, Alabama, on October 2, 1951, he was the son of the late Richard and Georgia Vess.

Jerry proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for nine years and was awarded the following recognitions: Silver Star, Bronze Star, Navy Achievement Medal, 3 Purple Hearts, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. Serving two terms as Post Commander of the VFW #7402, he and Elaine enjoyed attending the VFW conventions with others from this area.  Jerry was a retired truck driver who enjoyed staying busy.  An expert "tinkerer" he could repair anything and even built their house.  Going on cruises with Elaine was one of his favorite pastimes.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 35 years, Elaine Miller Vess; their daughters, Marci (Will) Beard of Fairhope, AL, Marta Boatwright of Felton, and Melody (Chad) Johnson of Temple; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes, Jerry will be cremated. He will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.
