James Craig Walsh, age 77 of Austell, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 12, 1945, in Youngstown, Ohio, and raised in suburban Detroit, he was the son the late Joseph and Margaret Walsh. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Sean James Walsh.
Jim lived a storied life. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Saratoga as an airman. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Award. Returning to civilian life, he completed his masters of science in social work and he spent many years as a social worker.
Jim was a history buff, he loved to discuss politics, and was a fierce Democrat. He loved the ocean, to sail and to scuba dive. He spent many hours reading and believed that one should never stop learning. Jim was a fabulous cook and loved sharing his talents with his family. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors in his garden taking care of his plants. Being a grandfather to his five grandchildren was his passion, and he loved his family dearly.
Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife of 37 years, Ava Corley Walsh of Austell; his daughters Candace (Martin) Dellacona of Long Island, New York and Christy (Jason) Bowen of Rockmart; and his brother, Lawrence Walsh (Gael) of Millerton, NY. Also surviving are his precious grandchildren, Scarlett Dellacona, Genevieve Dellacona, Maxwell Dellacona, Jordan Bowen, and Landon Bowen, as well as his loyal rescue dog, Molly, his nephew John (Jessica) Walsh and niece, Maggie (Natalie) Walsh..
In accordance with his wishes, Jim will be cremated.
