James Dewayne Evans, age 76 of Temple, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 20, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Cobb County, GA, on April 26, 1946, to the late David Alonzo Evans and the late Mary Pauline Cantrell Evans. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Cleo Hoak and Shirley Hutcheson, and three brothers, Lemual Evans, Paul Evans and Doyle Evans. Dewayne had worked in construction for a number of years and retired as a master carpenter. Being an avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish, hunt, work in his yard, and take care of his chickens. He was always a hard worker.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Angie & Rodney Truitt of Tallapoosa, and Jennifer Martin of Tallapoosa; his partner, Roberta Holcombe of Temple; five grandchildren: David Bates, Justin Bates, Kayla Bates, Lainie Martin, and Kinlee Martin; and one great-grandchild, Karlie Jo Lee. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services for Dewayne Evans will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 23, 2022, from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Brother Johnny Holcombe officiating. Interment will follow in the Draketown Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Rodney Truitt, David Bates, Justin Bates, William Morris, Stan Summerville, and Stanley Summerville, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
