Hugh Lee "Rip" Wood, age 85 of Bremen, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born in the Mt. View Community on March 22, 1936, to the late Annice Wells Statham and the late Waymon E. Wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cash Wood, and brothers, Howard Statham, Royce Statham, and Jimmy Statham. Rip enlisted in the US Army in 1954, where he was in the 101st Airborne Division, and he rose to the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1957. He retired from American Can as a line mechanic and found his passion in farming. He loved working on the farm, especially working with his tractor and bush hogging.
Survivors include his children: Karen (Russ) Lane of Carrollton, Randall Wood of Bremen, and Bryan Wood of Bremen; two sisters, Mary Ann (Chalmus) Weatherby of Buchanan, and June Addison of Felton; a brother, J.E. Statham of Texas; four precious grandchildren, Hayley (Keith) Kiser, Jacob Lane, Cason Wood, and Ella Wood; and two precious great-grandchildren, Eva Kiser and Brynn Kiser. Also surviving is his special friend, Yvonne Kimball.
Graveside services for Mr. Hugh "Rip" Wood will be conducted Monday, January 3, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Bremen with Reverend Richard Brannon officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Haralson County Veterans Association.. The family will receive friends at Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel on Sunday, January 2nd from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
