Henry Marvin Westmoreland, age 96 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. He was proud to tell everyone that he was born on March 1, 1926, in Mississippi. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Walsey and Bessie Westmoreland, his sister, Frances (Dewit) Tyler, his brothers W.L. (Velma) Westmoreland, Frank (Frances) Westmoreland, and Roy (Lera) Westmoreland; his daughter-in-love, Ann Westmoreland, Granddaughter, Cheri Mixon and Grandsons-in-love Tim Mitchell and David Mixon.
Marvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was an exceptional entrepreneur, which began when he was 12 years old with his own paper route and continued with his own electrical contracting business, H.M. Westmoreland Electric. He did many commercial jobs including in his exact words, "We lit up I-75 through downtown Atlanta in the 70's." Marvin began his Masonic journey at Pearl Lodge No. 23 F. & A.M. in Jackson, Mississippi. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice on July 8, 1949, passed to the degree of Fellow Craft on February 17, 1950, and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on March 31, 1950. Marvin was a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Eastern Star, and Shriners. He was a Past Master of the Buchanan Lodge, No. 78 F. & A.M. and was also a member of the Palmetto Daylight Lodge No 74 F. & A.M.
Surviving family members include his loving wife of 80 years, Mary Frances Gay Westmoreland; his sons Marvin Glynn Westmoreland of Buchanan and Dale (Judy) Westmoreland of Dallas; his grandchildren, Suzanne Mitchell, Lisa (Justin) Surginer, Patrick (Melissa) Westmoreland, Glynn Westmoreland, and Alan (Jessica) Westmoreland. Also surviving are his great grandchildren, Jackie, David, Mark, Alyssa, Rebecca, Peyton, Kynsley, Elizabeth, Mason, Mary and Easton along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for H. Marvin Westmoreland will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Allen Wilburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica with Masonic Funeral Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the funeral hour.
