Gerald Kimsey Chapman

Gerald Kimsey Chapman, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023.  Born on May 4, 1932, in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of the late Kimsey Albert Chapman and the late Maggie Barbour Chapman.  In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Justis Chapman, son-in-law, Tim McMichen, a great-grandson, Ender Chapman, as well as his siblings.

Growing up in Cherry Log, GA, Gerald developed a love of the north Georgia mountains.  He left the mountains and enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and proudly served his country for three years. Reaching the rank of Corporal, he served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed for a time in Germany.  Gerald spent more than thirty years as a truck driver, retiring from Yellow Freightline.  Marrying the love of his life, Margaret, Gerald's family became his passion.  He always showed great concern for his children and grandchildren and could not rest until he knew they were safely home.  Family time was very important to Gerald and he would stop whatever he was doing to spend time with them.  He enjoyed his trips with family to Ellijay and to the Chapman Family Cemetery, telling stories of his life along the way.  Gerald enjoyed staying busy by gardening and working in his yard. He loved Bluegrass music, the banjo, and listening to old time gospel hymns. He also had a special connection to all animals.  Gerald will be dearly missed for his stories and his unconditional love of his family.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Deborah McMichen of Bremen, Brian and Jennifer Chapman of Villa Rica, and Richard and Catrice Chapman of Talladega, AL.  Also surviving are his grandchildren: Justin McMichen, Kristen (Phillip) Holloway, Matthew (Rebecca) Chapman, Courtney (Taylor) Miles, Maverick Chapman, Penney Chapman, and Jaylin Hunt; and his great-grandchildren: Casen and Colten Holloway and Addyson and Nolan Miles.

Funeral services for Gerald Chapman will be conducted Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 2:00 :PM from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Chapman officiating.  Interment will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Brian Chapman, Maverick Chapman, Matthew Chapman, Justin McMichen, Phillip Holloway, and Taylor Miles.

The family will received friends at the funeral home from noon until the funeral hour.
