Eugene "Gene" Hobbs

Eugene "Gene" Hobbs, age 87 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Haralson County on April 10, 1935, to the late  Aaron Matthew Hobbs and the late Mary Lou Leatherwood Hobbs. In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his sisters, Estoria Buchanan and Estelle Bramlett; and his brothers, William Hobbs, Ernest Hobbs, Henry Hobbs, and Harvey Hobbs.

Gene retired as a machine operator with the Mead Company and continued working for another eight years in the maintenance department at Buchanan Elementary School.  In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and farming. His passion was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 68 years, Pauline Weaver Hobbs of Buchanan; his daughters, Sheila (Richard) Freitas of Tacna, Arizona, and Lorri (Mark) Ferguson of Dallas; his sons, Brian Hobbs and Alan Hobbs both of Buchanan; and his sister, Joanne Pope of Buchanan.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kent Johnson, Erica Weir, Brandon Hobbs, Brent Hobbs, Alex Garcia, Cody Garcia, Kaci Ward, and Tyler Hobbs.; and nine great grandchildren as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other family.

Funeral service for Gene Hobbs will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Fellowship Baptist Church with Brother Kevin Owens officiating.  Interment will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday evening at Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. and on Sunday at the church from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.
