Dessie Morgan Obituary

Dessie Lee Williams Morgan, age 79 of Tallapoosa, entered into her eternal reward on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. She was born on July 1, 1942, in Fruithurst, AL, to the late Will J. Williams and the late Myrtle Hulsey Goodwin. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Earnest W. Morgan, to whom she was married November 22, 1958; her daughter, Phoebe Gammon; grandson, Chris Morgan, Jr. and great grandson, Mason Morgan.

Dessie was a remarkable woman.  Growing up she loved music.  When her family finally got a radio, she stayed up on Friday nights to listen to the Grand Ole Opry "Friday Night Frolic" and on Saturday nights to the Opry.  In the 1990's she got a bass fiddle, better know as a dog house bass.  She learned to play gospel music, country music and blue grass music, and she played in a gospel country music band for years.  Another one of her passions was teaching the Bible which she did for many years.  Dessie wanted everybody to accept Jesus as their savior.

Nursing for more than 40 years, Dessie completed her nursing education by graduating the Practical Nursing program at Carroll Tech in 1977 and then receiving her RN degree at Floyd Junior College in June of 1980.  She received a Bachelor of Natural Health in February of 2003 from Clayton College of Natural Health in Birmingham, AL. Dessie worked in Labor & Delivery at Tanner Carrollton for many years.  She also worked at Polk General Hospital in Cedartown, at Polk County Nursing Home as Director of Nursing, and as an industrial nurse at CBS in Carrollton.  Dessie worked several years in Rome at the Floyd Medical Center Emergency Department and for thirteen years at the Harbin Clinic as a heart rehab nurse.  She spent twenty-five of her nursing years at Higgins in Bremen, first in the Emergency Department, then in ICU, and also as a nurse supervisor.

As talented as she was as a nurse, Dessie's greatest accomplishment was her family.  She spent many hours with her grandchildren, and  in her own words, "My grandchildren were much more fun than my children."   Left to cherish her memories are her two sons, Chris Morgan and Kevin Morgan of Tallapoosa; daughter, Delarce Allred of Georgia; her sisters, Carrie Chasteen of Tallapoosa and Trudy Daniel of Ft. Payne, AL; her brothers, Ronnie Goodwin of Muscadine and David Goodwin of Tallapoosa; sister-in-law, Bernice Entrekin of LaGrange; and her fourteen wonderful grandchildren, Brandy, Jeremy, Crystal, Scott, Mark, Katie, Nick, Jed, Kristen, Cheyenne, Jessie, Sylvia and Brittany; her seventeen precious great grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
