Mr. Danny R. Crook, age 62, of Buchanan, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019. He was born on April 3, 1957 in Dallas to the late Max W. Crook, Sr. and the late Polly Lavada Morris Crook.
Danny has served the State of Georgia in the promotion and conservation of our Natural Resources for over 34 years. He has been diligent in enforcing the Game and Fish and Boating Safety laws of the State of Georgia. Danny has been a member of: Georgia Peace Officers Association, Police Benevolent Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Haralson County Wildlife Association, West Georgia Youth Range Association and Georgia Hunter Education Association. He was a United States Dept. of the Interior Deputy Game Warden. He served on the first Georgia DNR Crowd Control Unit; He has worked with the Governor’s Task Force on Drug Suppression, and assisted other State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies in the West Georgia area. He has provided service to the State and his community during natural disasters. He received the State of Georgia Employees Community Service Award presented by Governor Sonny Perdue and has received numerous statewide departmental awards. He worked diligently to continue the Annual Haralson County Trout Fishing Rodeo, which has become the largest Kid’s Fishing Event in the State of Georgia with over 3,000 attendees annually. It is currently in its 38th year of existence. He is greatly admired and well respected throughout the State of Georgia and the West Georgia area. Danny retired DNR Badge Number / Call Number 113. DNR Badge Number/Call Number 113 was 1st assigned to Max Crook Sr. in September 1961 and retained until his retirement in May 1987. When Danny was transferred to Haralson County in June 1987, he was assigned that same number. DNR Badge Number/Call Number 113 has been in the Crook family for 51 years.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Jones Crook of Buchanan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cassie Crook Reed of Buchanan, Katie and Daniel Smith of Buchanan and Callie and Matt Hulsey of Bremen; three grandchildren, Jenna Reed, Ty Smith and Kipp Smith; one sister, Becky Crook Ross of Rockmart; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Jackie Crook of LaGrange, Max Jr. and Peggy Crook of Buchanan and several nieces, nephews and, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 2:00 PM from Tallapoosa East Baptist Church with Reverend Allen Wilburn, Reverend David Ginn and Reverend Jason Hudgens officiating. He will lie in state from 12 until the service hour. Music will be rendered by Muscadine Baptist Church Choir, Lighthouse Baptist Church Choir, Darlene Willingham and Jenna Reed. Interment will follow in Piney Woods Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Daniel Smith, Matt Hulsey, Eric Brown, Scott Bardenwerper, Todd Crook, Joey Crook, Matthew Jones and Jason Crook. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Ray Smith, Vance Posey, Clyde Walker, Ty Smith, Kipp Smith, Haralson County Wildlife Association and the DNR Rangers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Tallapoosa East Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Haralson County Wildlife Association, to benefit the Trout Rodeo. Donations can be made at any Bank OZK.
