Carmie Blanche Richards Dobbs, age 99 of Felton, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, in a local hospital. Born on March 19, 1924, in Buchanan, she was the daughter of the late Luther B. Richards and the late Mamie Payne Richards. In addition to her parents, Carmie is preceded in death by her husband, Early Dobbs, to whom she was married in 1944; a son, Gary Dobbs, a grandson, Joey Rainey; two great-grandchildren, C.J. Bridgers and Ben Bridgers; her sisters, Kate Williams, Geraldine McPherson, and Mildred Talley, and her brothers, Frank Richards, Lawrence Richards, and Curtis Richards.
In her almost 100 years, Carmie had witnessed so much history. She was a graduate of Buchanan High School and worked for more than 40 years at Hubbard's Slack Company in Bremen. Traveling was one of Carmie's favorite pastimes, and she had visited New Orleans, Hawaii, Niagra Falls, and many other places with her family and the Haralson County Seniors. Always up for an adventure, she even traveled to Jacksonville, Florida, by Greyhound Bus with one of her grands to see the Georgia-Florida football game. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When at home, she enjoyed working in her yard. Carmie joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in 1953 and was their oldest member in age and years of membership.
Her survivors include two sons and a daughters-in-law, Larry and Arlene Dobbs and Ricky and Kathy Dobbs, all of Felton; and her grandchildren: Joy Ware, Gina Dobbs, Lee Dobbs, Michael & Erin Dobbs, Jamie & Charlie Thurman, and Joseph & April Dobbs. Also surviving are twelve great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Funeral services for Carmie Dobbs will be conducted on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Felton with Rev. Richard Brannon, Rev. Dr. Allen Wilburn, and Rev. Ricky Caldwell officiating with eulogy given by Lee Dobbs. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Lee Dobbs, Michael Dobbs, Joseph Dobbs, C.J. Dobbs, Dylan Dobbs, Charlie Thurman, Brian Causey, and Brad Richards. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Tallman, David Addison, Alec Martin, Jerry Williams, and Chris Criswell.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel and also on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at the church.
