Mr. W.L. Leatherwood, age 86, of Buchanan passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Mr. Leatherwood was born in Haralson County on April 17, 1927. He was the son of the late W.W. Leatherwood and the late Dora Cason Leatherwood. Mr. Leatherwood was veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Ford Motor Company. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Peek Leatherwood; one grandchild, Todd Baker; five sisters, Lean Bonds, Georgia Petitt, Dessa Reeves, Ora Davis and Birdie Mae Lee; three brothers, J.T. Leatherwood, O.B. Leatherwood and I.V. Leatherwood.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Mildred Baker of Rockmart and Geneva and Tony Corn of Cedartown; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Margie Leatherwood of Norfolk, VA; best friend, Joyce Gentry of Buchanan; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Buddy Gentry, Rev. Richard Brannon and Danny Hutcheson officiating. Music will be rendered by Rev. Buddy Gentry and Randall Richardson. Interment will follow in Edwards Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Scott Baker, Douglas Rice, Bo Cook, Phillip Morton, Michael Baker, Dean Tanner, Bunk Davis and Byron Head. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: C.W. Ploof, Harold Philpot, Brian Leatherwood, Paul Leatherwood, Jason Hudgens and Troy Bush.
Graveside military funeral honors will be provided by the Haralson County Veterans Association.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
