William "Buster" Lee Smith, Jr, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026, just one day shy of his 82nd birthday. Born in Atlanta on June 9, 1944, he was the son of the late William "Billy" Smith and the late Flora Louise Smith. In addition to his parents, Buster is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Queen Smith, his daughter, Wanda Lynn Smith, and his sister Kathy Vaughn.

Buster was a retired commercial truck driver known for his dedication.  He drove for Williams Brothers, Vulcan, and Martin Brower truck companies to name a few.   Buster’s life was marked not only by his commitment to his profession but also by the vibrant personality that those who knew him came to appreciate. Beyond the cab and the open roads, he was a man who relished lighthearted moments and the joy of making others laugh, often displaying a mischievous streak that played out in friendly pranks and good-natured aggravation. Outside of his professional life, Buster cultivated a variety of interests that spoke to his curiosity and imagination. An enthusiastic collector and hobbyist, he found delight in building model trains and intricate train tracks, playing with remote controlled cars, and coin collecting. Buster's fascination extended intriguingly into sharks and dinosaurs. Those close to him fondly remember Buster’s hearty appetite and his enjoyment of good food. His legacy endures in the memories of his joyful spirit and the many ways he connected with the people and passions that made his life unique.

Left to cherish his memories are his son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Kathy Smith; his grandchildren: Jennifer Smith, Daniel Benton, Justin Weeks, and Steven Weeks; his sisters, Barbra Anne & Stan Clark, Carol Rowell, and Maxine & Elgin Rowell; and his brothers, Roscoe & Darlene Smith and Robert  Smith. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren; nephews: Danny Smith, Jason Barnes, Robert Barnes, and Billy White; nieces: Crystal Damiano, Annissa Finnell, Kim Murdock, and Pam Britt; and other family members.

In keeping with Buster's wishes, he will be cremated.

Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is honored to serve the cremation needs of the Smith family.
