Mr. William Thomas Overby, age 89 of Buchanan, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021. at his home.  He was born on July 5, 1931, in Guthrie, KY, to the late Mary Lucille Overby and Ora Lee Overby.  William is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Meinke Overby.

William lived most of his life in Akron, OH, moving to Buchanan in 2007.  Joining the U.S. Marines in 1951, he rose to the rank of Corporal, served in the Korean Conflict, and received the Navy Occupation Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was also a member of the American Legion and was a graduate of Ohio State.  Besides his career as an engineer at Goodyear, he enjoyed farming, fishing, and camping with his family.  His hobbies also included a fascination with trains.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Sue and John Fink of Buchanan, and Sally Boyer of Buchanan; one son, Bill Overby of Ohio; one sister Betty Jordan of California; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Mr. William Overby will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021, at 4:00 P.M. from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Britt Madden officiating. His family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. until the service hour.   For those not able to attend, the service will be live-streamed and available on our funeral home Facebook page.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, we ask that all attending the service and/or visitation wear a mask and maintain proper social distance from those not in your family.  We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our obituary page.  All ceremonies are limited to a maximum of 50 guests per state guidelines.
