Obituary

Mr. William Herbert Chandler, age 84, of Buchanan passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013. Mr. Chandler was born in Polk County on May 26, 1929. He was the son of the late William Roamie Chandler and the late Maggie Addison Chandler. Mr. Chandler was retired from the United States Army, serving from 1948 until 1968. His military service include serving in the occupation of Germany and Vietnam. He witnessed seventeen atomic bomb test blasts while stationed in the South Pacific. After his military career he worked for the United States Postal Service where he retired. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Frances McCoy; two brothers, Carl Chandler and James Charles Chandler; and one great grandchild, Raquel Madden.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Miller Chandler of Buchanan; one daughter, Susan Chandler of Rome, two sons and daughters-in-law, William Tony and Teresa Chandler of Cedartown and James and Dea Chandler of Villa Rica; two sisters, Cecil Beasley of Sylacauga, AL and Ruth Henderson of Buchanan; grandchildren, Dionysos David and his wife Patricia Madden, James William and his wife, Kathryn Madden, and Michael Chad and his wife, Candace Chandler; great grandchildren, Cameron Blake Thomas Chandler, Bayleigh Makalynn Chandler, Lahna Abigail Madden, Byron Alexander Madden, Natalia Mirka Madden, and Daisy Ann Madden; step-grandchildren, Tara and her husband, Jeff Doria and Carson Ellis; step-great grandchildren, Jaden Doria, Johnny Doria, Jackie Doria, Jeffrey Doria and Jackson Doria; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Buchanan with Elder Dennis Dean, Dion Madden and Jamie Madden officiating. Interment will follow in the Brannon-Perryman Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: William Miller, Gary Timms, Horace Miller, Chad Chandler, John Beasley, J.P. Smith and Steven Miller. Full military honors will be provided at the graveside by the United States Army.

The remains will be taken to the family residence located at 418 Mormon Church Rd., Buchanan, GA 30113. The family will receive friends at the residence from Tuesday at 12:00 Noon until Wednesday at 12:00 Noon.

The remains will lie in state at the Church Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.
