Mr. William "Bill" Thomas Carnes, age 91, of Carrollton formerly of Buchanan passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Mr. Carnes was born in Felton on August 12, 1921. He was the son of the late Jacob Lonnie and Mary Smith Carnes. Mr. Carnes was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II and was a retired city bus driver with the Rome Transit Department. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Grover Carnes, Melton Carnes and Wilburn Carnes; and three sisters, Elizabeth Lee, Flora Bell and Ina Robinson.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Grace Towe Carnes of Carrollton; one daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Keith Fowler of Adairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Jeanette Carnes of Silver Creek; two step daughters and one step son-in-law, Angie Chesser of Carrollton and Lujune and John Kelley of Lindale; two step-sons and daughters-in-law, Jacky and Gail Waits of Calhoun and Jerry and City Waits of Yorkville; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and a number of great grandchildren and other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Caldwell and Rev. Michael Craft officiating. Music will be rendered by Mavis Caldwell, Stacey Craft, Jan West and Misha Carnes. Interment will follow in Dry Creek Baptist Church in Adairsville at 1:30 P.M. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Ben Carnes, Stan Carnes, Harold Carnes, Kenny Carnes, Todd Carnes, Jody Chesser and Jordan Waits.

The remains will lie in state at the Church from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 P.M.
until 9:00 P.M.
