Wilkie Gerald Meares, age 77, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Trinka Davis Veterans Village. Born in Atlanta on March 30, 1947, he was the son of the late Wilkie Terry Meares and the late Mariom McNair Meares.  In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Walker Meares.

After graduating high school, Gerald proudly served in the United States Army.  He was a communications specialist and served a tour in Vietnam.  He was an excellent golfer and almost turned professional.  An avid outdoorsman, Gerald also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his son, Paul Meares; a grandson, Jacob Meares; two step-daughters, Andrea (Billy) Fisher and Portia Payne; as well as many great-grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes, Gerald will be cremated.
