Staff Sergeant Wiley Carroll Rowland, (U.S. Army Retired), age 82, of 3734 Hwy. 120, Tallapoosa passed away Monday, March 30, 2009. Mr. Rowland was born in Fulton County, Georgia on May 6, 1926. He was the son of the late Walter and Clara Milam Rowland. Mr. Rowland served his country faithfully for over 26 years in the United States Army, retiring June 1, 1970. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mildred "Midge" Bohannon; one grandchild, Jeff Huff, and one brother, Richard Rowland. Survivors include his faithful wife of 19 years, Mary Gaynell Rowland, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lucy and Jerry Akin of Douglasville, Mary Lee and Eddie Dutton of Cedartown and Alesha Brothers of Buchanan; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Christopher Branson and Nicholas Branson, and Scott and Paula Pope of Buchanan; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Martha and Fred Spake of Bremen, Inez and W.H. Griffin of Smyrna, Minnie Lee Williams of Bremen and Lorraine Rutherford of Waco; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Albert Rowland of Winston, Roy and Ann Rowland of Douglasville, Horace Rowland of Bremen and Lamar and Jewell Rowland of Opp, AL; three half-brothers, Eugene Rowland, Harold Rowland, and Raymond Roland all of Cumming; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from the New Vision Church of God in Buchanan with Rev. Jason Spray and Rev. Harold E. Payne officiating. Music will be rendered by Kristi Pope. Interment will follow in the Hollywood Cemetery in Tallapoosa with full military honors. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
