PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SERVICE FOR MR. NIX HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 2013 AT 1:00 P.M. AT FRIST BAPTIST CHURCH OF BREMEN.
Mr. W.C. Nix of Cashtown Road in Bremen, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his home on February 13, 2013, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer''s and Parkinson''s disease. He was born in Decatur County, Georgia, on May 4, 1919, the sixth of twelve children born to Jesse Powell and Dolly Rentz Nix, in the community of Eldorinda. The surviving children of this large close family celebrated their 50th year of family reunions in Donaldsonville, GA this past July. W.C. was married for 69 years to Effie Davis Nix, and together they had four children. Settling in Bremen as newlyweds, W.C. went to work at Plantation Pipeline Company in 1941. His years at Plantation were interrupted by World War II in the mid 40''s when he served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Austria. He resumed his position at Plantation upon his return to Bremen and retired in 1984 with 41 years of service. W.C. spent his life caring for his family, from his parents to his children and grandchildren. He loved nothing better than tending his cows and his large garden, and was never happier than when sitting under the shade trees in his own yard surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie; a son, Rodney C. Nix; and a granddaughter, Lynde M. Nix. He is survived by children George and Eleanor (Nix) Huff, of Midland, TX; Mike and Marcelle (Nix) Johnson, and Dale and Sandy Nix, all of Bremen. At the time of his death, he had 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include a brother, Roy Nix of Iron City, and two sisters, Edith Nix Hood, of Leesburg, FL, and Eathell Nix Tyler, of Iron City, GA. W.C. will be memorialzed in a service at First Baptist Church of Bremen, GA, on Saturday, February 23rd. Visitation will begin at 1:00, with the service to follow at 2:00. Pastor Herman Parker and Dr. Keith Moore officiating. Following his wishes, Mr. Nix was cremated, with Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel in Buchanan having charge of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that those wishing to make a donation do so in his memory to Tanner Hospice, P. O. Box 1136, Carrollton, GA 30112, or to the charity of their choice.
Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
