Thelma Mae Johnson Bush, age 79 of Buchanan, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Yorkville, Georgia, on December 26, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Lamar Johnson and the late Pearlie Thelma Wright Johnson.  In addition to her parents, Thelma is preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Brown, Betty Hogan, and Rosielee Parrish, and her brothers, Donald Johnson, Ellis Johnson, J.B. Johnson, Charles Johnson, and Lamar Johnson.

Thelma loved life and her passion was taking care of her family.  She was an excellent cook and was known far and wide for her delicious fried pies.  Mawmaw also supported her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all their activities.  Loving all sporting events in which they participated, she could be found cheering on the sidelines. Not only did she cheer for the players, but she sometimes hassled the officials causing her to be ejected from the game.   In her earlier years, Thelma enjoyed singing and was a part of a church quartet.  She also enjoyed taking care of her yard.  Many days you could find her outside mowing the lawn or working with her flowers.  Thelma was loved by so many and will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 61 ½ years, Lowell Bush; her son and daughter-in-law, Reverend Doctor Mason and Londa Bush of Buchanan; her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy & Terry Robinson of Buchanan, April & Brian Warren of Tallapoosa, and Suzanne & Travis York of Bremen; and her sister, Ivymae Dobbs of Temple. Also surviving are her 15 wonderful grandchildren, 16 precious great-grandchildren, and 6 beautiful great great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services for Thelma Bush will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, January 19, 2025, from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Jacob Beaty and Mason Bush officiating.  Interment will follow in the Buchanan City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 until the funeral hour.
