Robert Earl McElwaney

Robert Earl McElwaney, age 65 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.  Born in Atlanta on March 18, 1961, he was the beloved son of the late Chester Allen McElwaney and the late Mary Helen Matthews Wilson.  In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his sister, Donna Lynn Wheeler, and his brother, Larry James McElwaney.

An avid outdoorsman, Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing.  One fond memory that brings smile is his trip frog gigging with his family.  Always up for an outdoor adventure, Robert spent many hours panning for gold and even discovered some gold.  For years, Robert worked in construction as a skilled carpenter.  His sweet spirit will be missed by all who knew him. 

Left to cherish his memory are his long-term partner, Debra McElwaney; his daughters: Robin Denise Wood of Buchanan, Melinda Louise McElwaney of Alabama, and Cherry Helen McElwaney of Buchanan; and his brother, Darry Allen McElwaney of Tallapoosa.  Also surviving are his twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 4 nephews; and other family and friends.

Funeral services for Robert McElwaney will be conducted on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Brother James Owens officiating.  Following the service, Robert will be laid to rest at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 9th, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on the day of the service from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
