July 4, 1919 – June 13, 2014
Mr. Robert "Bob" Weatherly Reid, Sr., age 94, of Buchanan passed away Friday, June 13, 2014. Mr. Reid was born in Buchanan, Georgia on July 4, 1919. He was the son of the late Dr. John Foster Reid and the late Mary Caroline Head Reid. Mr. Reid was a retired rural letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, serving during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. During World War II he was stationed in England, Scotland, France and Germany. Mr. Reid was involved in the capture of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen, Germany. After the War, he was in the reserves and was called up for service during the Korean era. During this time he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith McGinnis Reid; one son, Bobby Reid; sisters, Mattie Lou Hewitt, Gladys Verner and Virginia Speir; and brothers, Herschel Reid, Morgan Reid and Julius Reid.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Larry Hutcheson of Temple; one son, Johnny Reid of Buchanan; two grandchildren, Kim, and her husband, Bryan Scoggins of Rome and Pam Hutcheson of Cartersville; one great grandchild, Matt Scoggins of Rome; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. from Buchanan United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Rooks and Danny Hutcheson officiating. Music will be rendered by Kersha Cartwright, Beleta Anderson and Dora Gable. Interment will follow in Edwards Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
