Reverend George Whit Bennett, age 82, of Buchanan passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Rev. Bennett was born in Cobb County on October 28, 1928. He was the son of the late Thomas Andrew Bennett and the late Annie Payne Bennett. Reverend Bennett attended Florida Baptist Seminary and William Carey Seminary. He was a beloved pastor of a number of churches over the years. His pastorates included Corinth Baptist Church, Hosford, FL, County Line Baptist Church, State Line, MS, Bush Arbor Baptist Church, Rome, First Baptist Church, Buchanan, Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Marietta, Buckhead Ridge Baptist Church, Okeechobee, FL, New Providence Baptist Church, Marietta, New Canaan Baptist Church, Buchanan and Midway Baptist Church, Bremen. He also served as interim pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Bremen, Bethany Baptist Church, Tallapoosa, Bellview Baptist Church, Cedartown and Cornerstone Baptist Chapel, Bremen. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lurene Fowler and four brothers, James Bennett, Bud Bennett, Watson Bennett and Ernest Bennett.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Miller Bennett of Buchanan; one daughter and son-in-law, Kristy and David Robinson of Bremen; one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Cathy Bennett of Acworth; three grandchildren, Sydney Robinson, Zachary Bennett and Andrew Bennett; and three sisters, Virginia Walraven, Marge Patterson and Magdalene Chumley.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Buchanan with Dr. Allen Wilburn, Rev. Aaron Johnson and Rev. Kevin Ayers officiating. Music will be rendered by Bill Brown. Interment will follow in Buchanan City Cemetery with deacons of First Baptist Church serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Buchanan Thursday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
