Phyllis Arlene Murray Austin, age 68 of Tallapoosa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.  Born in East St. Louis, Illinois, on April 15, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Murray and the late Augusta Payne Murray.

Phyllis had a brilliant mind but a humble heart.  A graduate of Pickens Tech, she worked for many years in the medical field as an Administrative Assistant.  An outdoors nature buff, Phyllis enjoyed gardening, especially growing her herbs. Reading was another favorite pastime as was taking care of her cats.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Amber Murray and Omar Yassine of Tallapoosa and Penelope Burris of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; her grandchildren: Macayla Ruzycky, Rozlynn Guerin, and Eidan Geurin; and one great-grandchild, Milo Gay.  Also surviving are her sisters, Jeannie Dawson, Deloris Murray, and Vivian Murray, all of Doniphan, Missouri.

In keeping with Ms. Austin's wishes, she will be cremated.
