Peggy Joyce Philpot, age 89 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024.  Born in Haralson County on February 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William Mullins and the late Effie Lou Sanders Mullins. In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Artemus Philpot, and her brother, James Monroe Mullins.

A perfect example of a Proverbs 31 Christian woman, Joyce loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, and believed in working and staying busy.  For many years she worked at Sewell Manufacturing, and after their closing, she worked at Arrow Shirt Company.  Never idle, Joyce enjoyed sewing, which she had done all her life, and working in her yard.  Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Joyce was a long-time member of Tallapoosa East Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law, Calvin & Jeanette Philpot of Buchanan; her grandchildren: Sherrie (Marty) Short, Samantha (Justin) Smoker, and Kelly (Corey) Robinson; sister, Charlotte Mullins Howard of Carrollton; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy & Ruth Mullins of Savannah, and Ronald & Bernice Mullins of Buchanan.  Also surviving are her precious great-grandchildren: Austin, Ansley, Andrew, Aaron, Kinslee, and Grayson; as well as many other family members and friends.

Funeral services for Joyce Philpot will be conducted on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Brannon officiating.  Interment will follow in the Tallapoosa East Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Craig Philpot, Joey Philpot, Ed Shealy, Chris Easterwood, Phillip Morton, and Jim Lepard.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

The family will be gathering at Calvin's house the day prior to the funeral service.
