IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nickolas Derrik
Payne
May 29, 1987 – October 6, 2025
Nickolas Derrik Payne, age 38 of Buchanan, passed away Monday, October 6, 2025, in a local hospital. Born in Carrollton, Georgia, on May 29, 1987, he was the son of Jamie Perry Payne and the late Timothy Lovvorn Payne. In addition to his father, Nick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawton & Margaret Payne and Edwin Perry.
A 2005 Bremen High School graduate, Nick played trombone in the marching Blue Devil Band. He had an early love of Star Wars that continued throughout his life. He loved all sports, but especially baseball and remained an avid Atlanta Braves fan all his life. Playing cards, for fun and in casinos, was also a favorite pastime. But Nick's passion was spending time with his son, Maddux. Whether playing X-Box games or just hanging out, they had a bond that could not be broken. Nick's four-legged companion, Apollo, a dog too big for most people, was always by his side, too. Nickolas loved his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus. His fun loving personality will be dearly missed by his family and friends, and his gift of life-saving donation will be forever remembered.
Left to cherish his memories are his son, Maddux Payne; his mother, Jamie Payne, his sister and brother-in-law, Cristen and Dallas McKay; and his brother, Gabriel Payne. Also surviving are his grandmother, Miriam Perry; his niece, Sunny-Rae McKay; nephew, Judah Payne; his dog, Apollo, and a number of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 11th, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel in Buchanan and again at the First Baptist Church in Bremen on Sunday from 3:00 PM until the funeral hour.
Funeral services for Nick Payne will be conducted on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 4:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Bremen with Rev. James Owens and Rev. Hunter Roe officiating. Nick will be laid to rest in the Bremen City Cemetery with Brandon Owens presiding and the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jeremy Seipel, John Rowell, Anthony Knost, Colin Vinson, Clint Strickland, and Josh Akin.
Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is honored to serve the Payne family.
