Mona Gilliam Smith, age 68 of Tallapoosa, passed away in a local hospital on Saturday, March 15, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.  Born in Cedartown, Georgia, on December 7, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Edward "Buddy" Gilliam and the late Frances Camp Gilliam.  In addition to her parents, Mona is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lynn Smith, who passed away on April 24, 2020, and her brothers, Kippy Gilliam and Scott Gilliam.

Mona loved children and retired after many years as a Haralson County School System paraprofessional and bus aide. Me-maw, as she was affectionately know by her grandchildren, spent many hours cooking for them and taking them to the park to play. Being outdoors, just communing with nature, was a favorite pastime as well as going out to eat. Mona's sweet, loving personality will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Left to cherish her memories are her children: Jana & Travis Chandler of Buchanan and Justin & Amber Smith of Tallapoosa; and her precious grandchildren: Priscilla Ash, Leighton Ash, Jay Smith, Ally Smith, and Carli Chandler.  Also surviving are her sisters and brothers-in-law, Wendy & Ricky Bradshaw of Cedartown, Marla Coffey of Rockmart, and Dena & Sam Copeland of Fort Payne, Alabama; her mother-in-law, Margaret Smith;  her sons-in-love, Nathan & Samantha Conner of Tallapoosa and James & Robin Bickford of Temple and grandchildren-in-love: Blaine Conner, Trent Conner, Scarlet Conner, Adam Bickford, Bethany Bickford, and Chloe Bickford; as well a many friends.

A graveside service for Mona Smith will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Bremen, Georgia.  Officiating will be Rev. Danny Mason and Rev. Mike Casey.  Music will be provided by David Alley.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Nathan Conner, Adam Bickford, Tim Tullock, John Casey Odom, Blaine Conner, Brandon Garner, and Robert Moore, and honorary pallbearer will be Travis Chandler.
