Michael James Carroll (Jabo), age 79 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Michael was born in Haralson County, GA on June 26, 1945, to the late Joy Fay Payton Carroll and Harold Carroll.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Alan Guy Hembree.

As a boy Michael was given the nick-name "Jabo" by his Daddy, on the railroad it meant "bossman."  Jabo loved fast cars and was known to have been an excellent driver in local drag races in Buchanan.  He graduated from Buchanan High School in 1963.  Through the years he worked for Planation Pipeline, Southern Railway, American Can and BK Inc., eventually retiring from the Haralson County Roads Department.  While working with the railroad Michael walked from Savannah to Chattanooga checking the rails.  For a time, Michael collected and restored old cars and loved showing them off to friends and family. He deeply loved his family, his friends, and his church.

Michael is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Robin Scott of Buchanan, Rita Carroll Meeks (Joey) of Bremen, and Jennifer Hutchinson Rourke of Bremen; his sister, Yvonne Kimball, his  brother, Payton Carroll, and Uncle, Leon Carroll all of Buchanan; grandchildren, Anthony James (AJ) Scott (Brandy) of Buchanan, Austin Scott (Shannon) of Castle Rock, Colorado, Logan Meeks Warren of Bremen, Cortney Rourke and Kayla Rourke both of Bremen; great grand-children; Maizie Glore, River Truett, Abbie Webb, Kaylee Webb, Brooke Scott, Alexander Prater, Easton Scott, Marilyn Warren, Vivian Warren, former wife of 44 years, Linda Carroll, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 5, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 2:00 pm from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Allen Wilburn and Brother Ricky Shirley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour on Saturday.  Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are: Payton Carroll, AJ Scott, Austin Scott, Joey Meeks, Rodney Kimball, Roger Kimball, Eddie Carroll, Lee Carroll, Tony Scott and River Truett.  Honorary Pallbearers will be:  Kirk Sanders, Greg Wilkins, Terry Edwards, Shannon Deese, Roger Lyle, Okie Marlow, Scott Blackmon, Mark Morris, Scott Prince, and Patty Ledbetter  Interment will be at the Buchanan City Cemetery.
