Mr. Mershon Marvin Atkinson, age 74, of Temple (Draketown Community) passed away Monday, April 28, 2014.  Mr. Atkinson was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on June 20, 1939.  He was the son of the late Frank Atkinson and the late Mary Dulsky Hoal.  Mr. Atkinson was  a retired salesman and had worked at Draketown Superette.  He was a Lay Speaker with the United Methodist Church and had volunteered with the Murphy-Harpst Children's Home.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Joan Space.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Mitchell Atkinson of Temple; two daughters, Cathy Wageman and Christine Atkinson; one son, Mershon Marvin Atkinson, Jr.; two sisters, Whilda Cronin and Darlene Distler; two brothers, Phil Atkinson and Doug Atkinson; four grandchildren, Camille Atkinson, Cody Wageman, Nathan Wageman and Nichole Cirar; two great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Smith and Rev. Tonya Hardeman officiating.  Music will be rendered by Harold McWhorter.  Interment will follow in Melrose Hills Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M.
