Miss Melva Violet Davenport, age 95, of Buchanan passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015.  Miss Davenport was born in Buchanan on August 21, 1920.  She was the daughter of the late Albert Herschel Davenport and the late Addie Elaine Watson Davenport.  Miss Davenport was a member of the Buchanan High School Class of 1938, attended Massey Business College in Atlanta and spent her career with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company in Atlanta.  Besides her parents, she was preceded death by one sister, Betty Derrick; and one brother, Lewis Davenport.

Survivors include four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Francis and Bobby Dowdy Bremen, Faye and John Adams of Lyons, Evelyn Smith and Ann Riggs both of Bremen; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Judy Davenport of Bowdon; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Van Brown and Dr. Terrell McBrayer officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
