Mrs. Matilda Louise Smith Hurd, age 83, of Carrollton passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011. Mrs. Hurd was born in Clarke County on April 13, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Weldon R. Smith and the late Martha Cleo Bates Smith. Mrs. Hurd was a homemaker. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Franklin. Survivors include her husband, John Anthony Hurd of Carrollton; two daughters, Sharon Franklin of Dallas and Shirley Johnson of Carrollton; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Danny A. and Janice Hurd of Sierra Vista, AZ; two sisters, Rowena Franklin of Buchanan and Helen Porter of Carrollton; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a number of other relatives. The family will conduct a memorial service at a later date. The body was cremated. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
