Mrs. Marlene Bowling Head, age 73, of 1175 Shoreham Dr., Atlanta died peacefully in her sleep Monday, December 29, 2008. Mrs. Head was born in Tallapoosa, Georgia on May 25, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Ivy Bowling and the late Grace Smith Bowling. Survivors include her husband, Charles L. Head of Atlanta; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Col. Richard E. and Debbie Pope (USAF Ret.) of San Antonio, TX and Roger D. Pope of Fairburn; two grandsons, Timothy R. Pope of Jacksonville, FL and Justin C. Pope of San Antonio, TX; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack and Ruby Nell Head of Buchanan and Robert James and Ellen Head of Montrose, SD; and a number of nieces and nephews. She also leaves several cousins which she was proud to have in her midst. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She always had a smile and never met a stranger or at least they were not strangers when they departed. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 2, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Buddy Gentry and Danny Hutcheson officiating. Music will be rendered by Rev. Buddy Gentry. Interment will follow in the Baptist Tabernacle Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Lloyd Smith, Howard Smith, Duel Bowling, Calvis Bowling, Dwight Longino and Randy Chandler. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
