Lawrence Douglas Moore, known as Larry to those close to him, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, the day following his 66th birthday. Born in Dallas, Texas, on March 28, 1960, he was the son of the late Kenneth Lee Moore and the late Lola Emma Karr Moore.

Larry lived a life marked by dedication, service, and simplicity. Larry devoted many years to a distinguished career in law enforcement with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office, where his commitment to justice and community safety was unwavering. Prior to this, he served honorably in the United States Army from January 1990 until January 1998, specializing as a Military Police officer. His military service included deployments to Bosnia, and his exemplary conduct earned him numerous accolades such as the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Badge with Pistol Bar, and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar.

A simple man at heart, Larry found joy in the quieter pleasures of life. He relished watching NASCAR and took great delight in playing and following golf, with a special affection for the prestigious Master’s Tournament. His love extended to his animal companions, especially his cats and labs. An enthusiast of outdoor cooking, Larry mastered the art of Texas-style BBQ. Reflecting his personal touch and vision, he even designed the home where he lived. As we remember Lawrence Douglas Moore, we honor a man whose life was defined by service, humility, and a deep love for those around him.

Larry’s life's journey was shared with his lifetime partner of 26 years, Dawn Robinson of Buchanan; his two daughters, Janice Lynne Moore and Morgan Ann Moore, and his sister, Doris Anne Glover.

In keeping with his wishes, Larry will be cremated.

Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is honored to serve the cremation needs of the Moore family.
