Lander "Lanny" Greig Chesser, age 79 of Bremen, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at a local hospital. Born in Palatka, Florida, on May 17, 1947, he was the son of the late Dewrel Lander Chesser and the late Mary Kathryn Green McCarthy. In addition to his parents, Lanny was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Ann Stephenson.
For many years, Lanny owned and operated Chesser's Cinema on the Buchanan Square, a beloved local establishment he managed from 1985 until 1996. He was known for maintaining the video rental store in impeccable condition, often seen polishing the wood floors until they gleamed. His pride in his business reflected the pride he held in his family's accomplishments and wellbeing. Following his time at Chesser's Cinema, Lanny devoted more than 20 years to Crown Bolt, earning the affectionate nickname “the Nuts and Bolts man” as a testament to his expertise and reliability. When Crown Bolt was acquired by Home Depot, he continued his service at the Villa Rica store, contributing his skills and knowledge for several more years. His dedication to his work was exemplary, characterized by a quiet, steady resolve and meticulous attention to detail.
Beyond his professional life, Lanny had a deep love for outdoor pursuits, particularly fishing and riding his four-wheeler. Mr. Chesser’s character was defined by humility and an unassuming nature, matched by a profound love for his family and the community he called home. Lanny Chesser’s memory endures through the many lives he impacted with his dedication, care, and steady presence. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Deborah Wilson Chesser with whom he spent 32 years; his daughters: AnnMarie & Jeremy Smith of Tallapoosa, Mecheal & David McPherson of Mt. Zion, Linda Ledbetter of Buchanan, Katie & Keith Glaze of Chattanooga, and Marie Jordan of Cleveland, Tennessee; his sons: Greig, Jr. & Amanda Chesser of Tallapoosa, and Jody & Jennifer Chesser of Temple; his precious grandchildren: Tyler, McKenna, Destiny, Raven, Octavia, Jake, Kenny, Cody, Cryslin, Ashli, Amber, Ashley, Skylar, Shanley, and Jeremy; and 13 Great-Grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, John McCarthy; a number of nieces and nephews; and his wonderful MET team at the Villa Rica Home Depot.
