Joyce Sharon Long

Joyce Sharon Dennis Long, age 91 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025.  Born in Compton, Illinois, on February 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Berthal Austin Dennis and the late Lucille M Kehm Dennis.  In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, James Long; a daughter, Cynthia Schinzer; and her siblings Robert and Myrna.

Joyce was raised in Illinois, spent many years in Indiana, and made her final home in Georgia.  She worked for several years in healthcare in medical records.  In her younger years, Joyce was a very active member of the Loyal Order of  the Moose.  An avid reader, she had a very large library of favorite novels.  Westerns were her favorite movies and John Wayne was her beloved actor.  Joyce was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family.  Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, as she got to cook and spend time with her family.  

Her survivors include her daughter, Kathy Hyland (Ivey Harvell) of Acworth and Vickie Hardin (Mike) of Douglasville; her sons, Richard Schinzer of Buchanan and Rick Long of Somerset, Wisconsin; her ten precious grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two nephews and one niece.

Graveside services for Joyce Long will be conducted on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at New Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Brian Howard officiating.
