Mr. John Albert Gaines, age 84, of Buchanan passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018. Mr. Gaines was born in Fulton County, Georgia, on March 31, 1933.  He was the son of the late Ernest Gaines and the late Myra Crowe Gaines.  Mr. Gaines was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1951 until 1961.  He was retired from the Georgia Department of Labor and has served for many years as Chairman of the Board of the Buchanan Housing Authority. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jerry Weaver Gaines; one sister, June Chism; and one grandchild, Misty Evans.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Shawn and Rodney Phillips of Rockmart, and Starla and Johnny Williams of Buchanan; five grandchildren, Danielle Tackett, T.J. Whitlow, Heather Williams, Whitney Wright and Hunter Williams; fourteen great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Buddy Gentry and Danny Hutcheson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Buchanan City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
