Mr. John Melvin Burnett, age 86, of 791 Morgan Rd., Bremen passed away Monday, June 8, 2009. Mr. Burnett was born in Carroll County on December 2, 1922. He was the son of the late Cliff Burnett and the late Winnie Wright Burnett. Mr. Burnett was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. serving during World War II. He saw action and was wounded at Iwo Jima and was awarded the Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cook Burnett of Bremen; one son and daughter-in-law, Clinton and Jo Ann Burnett of Bremen; one sister, Mattie Lou Reese of Centre, AL; one brother, Carl Burnett of Centre, AL; three grandchildren, April Burnett, Sharon Lewis and Julie Kenworthy; six great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. from Ephesus Christian Church Cemetery with Minister J.C. Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Ephesus Christian Church Cemetery. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
