Mrs. Joann Brandenburg Strickland, age 83 of Carrollton, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at a local hospital.  She was born on January 11, 1939, in Highlands, North Carolina, to the late E.C. Brandenburg, Sr. and the late Lorene Delemar Brandenburg.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sonya D. Strickland; a sister, Angie Shephard; and brothers, E.C. Brandenburg, Jr. and Ray Brandenburg.

Joann was retired from J. Smith Lanier & Co. where she had worked for more than thirty-two years.  In her early years, she enjoyed golfing, and later in life she enjoyed working with her flowers in the yard.  "Meemaw," as she was affectionately called, was the rock of her family. She dearly loved all her family, but especially her her grandson and great-grandchildren, and she will be truly missed.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 60 years, Jimmy Strickland; her daughter, Vickie Lynn Burnum; her grandson and his wife, Robert Jacob "Jake" and Nikki Burnum; and her precious grandchildren, Luke Burnum and Elisabeth Burnum, all of Carrollton.  Also surviving are two brothers, Johnny Brandenburg and Phillip Brandenburg.

A graveside service for JoAnn Strickland is planned for Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 6:00 pm, at New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery, New Hope Church Road in Carrollton, with Pastor Anthony Puckett officiating.  The family requests casual attire for those attending.
