Mr. Jay "J.L." Lee Thornton, age 75, of Tallapoosa passed away Monday, November 21, 2016.  Mr. Thornton was born in Carroll County, Georgia on March 21, 1941.  He was the son of the late Leonard Thornton and the late Leila Brannon Thornton.  Mr. Thornton was a carpenter.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Christopher Cates and Christa and Jody Turner all of Tallapoosa; one step-son, David Verner of Tallapoosa; one sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Clyde Shirey Carrollton; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Harvey Thornton and Hershel and Linda Thornton all of Carrollton; seven grandchildren; one great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jason Hatchett officiating.  In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, he will be cremated following the funeral service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
