Mrs. Emily Jane Keown Newbern, age 62, of Bremen passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009. Mrs. Newbern was born in Floyd County on May 2, 1947. She was the daughter of the late John Arthur Keown and Mrs. Mary Sue Willis Keown of Buchanan. Mrs. Newbern was a business woman. She was the co-founder and former owner of King Packaging Company in Bremen and the owner of the Lion Golf Course in Bremen. She was also a member of Poseyville United Methodist Church. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Garest Newbern. Survivors besides her mother include one daughter Jodi Newbern and Todd Parham of Bremen; one son, Ricky and Melissa Newbern of Bremen; two sisters, Judy and Tony Kimball of Bremen and June and Tony Anderson of Bremen; five grandchildren, Brittney Hulsey, Newbern Parham, Emily Jane Newbern, Madison Newbern and Elizabeth Newbern; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at Bremen First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Stinson and Rev. Wayne Monroe officiating. A eulogy will be by Rick Pollard along with Scripture by Brittney Hulsey. Prayers will be offered by Emily Jane Newbern. Music will be rendered by David McGukin and Ann Hobbs. Interment will follow in the Poseyville United Methodist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Paul Childers, Bill Phillips, Larry Hodges, Guy Darnell, Dr. Sam Ogden, Sheldon Praise, Eddie Dickenson and Jeff King. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lion Ladies Golf Association. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Branham Hall of Bremen First United Methodist Church. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Poseyville United Methodist Church, 810 Corinth-Poseyville Rd., Bremen, GA 30110. Hutcheson''s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
