James Steven Verner

James Steven Verner, age 67 of Dallas, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in a local hospital.  He was the son of the late George Verner and the late Sara Ruth Verner.  In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in death by a brother, Tom Verner, and his wife, Sherrie.

For over 40 years, Steve worked with the Scholastic Book Fair Company delivering books to children all over Georgia. His love of travel found him driving solo from Georgia to the Pacific Ocean and back. With a rod and reel always with him, Steve was ready to fish when the opportunity arose.  He was also an avid Georgia Bulldog fan with shirt and hat ready to watch the game every Saturday.  With his remarkable memory, Steve could recall football statistics and baseball statistics from many years ago.  A man of faith, he was a Christian and has gained his heavenly reward.  His wit and generous personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memories are his brother and sister-in-law, Timothy & Jacqueline Verner of Mableton; sister and brother-in-law, Lyn & Horace Bennett of Kennesaw; 9 nieces and nephews; one great niece, two great nephews, and numerous cousins.

Funeral services for Steve will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 11th, from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with family remarks being offered by his brother, Timothy Verner.  Steve will be laid to rest in the Waters/Verner lot at Edwards Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 1:00 until the funeral hour.
