Obituary

James Phillip Roberts, age 76 of Tallapoosa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at his residence.  Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Herman Oscar Roberts and the late Georgia Boone Roberts.  In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his brother, Larry Roberts and a sister, Frances McBroom.

A true Southern Gentleman, James spent many years working in the concrete business.  Keeping himself fit was an obsession of his, and he spent many hours each week in the gym working out and training others.  In his spare time, he enjoyed bass fishing and dancing with the love of his life, Janelle. He was "Poppy" to his most important people, his grands and great-grands, but he loved all children.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 39 years, Janelle Parris Roberts of Tallapoosa; his son, Buster Ray, Jr. of Mableton; his daughters, Amanda Barbeau of Locust Grove, and Mary Wakefield of Tallapoosa; and his sisters, Florence Fletcher of Douglasville, Louise Darnell Port St. Joe, Florida, Remona Anderson of Douglasville, and Bonnie Moon of Douglasville.  James is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Tonya, Ashley, Dwayne, Brooke, Kaitlin, Austin, Elijah, and Kirstin; as well as 11 precious great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for James Roberts will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2020, from Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel with Justin Fednander officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Following the service, James will be cremated.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be mailed to Calvary Children's Home, 1430 Lost Mountain Rd, Powder Springs, GA 30127 or donations may be made by clicking on http://calvarykids.org and selecting the donate button.
